Attorney Mali Oyen has experience as a prosecutor and a defense attorney, and she will put this experience to work for you. She began her legal career at the Pennington County State's Attorney's Office, gaining daily courtroom experience and detailed insight into the criminal justice system. She then worked as a legal aid attorney, serving indigent clients in the areas of criminal defense, family law, and housing rights.
She won her first civil trial, successfully arguing that a landlord should be made to honor the contract for deed he entered into with a single mother of two--as a result her client was able to maintain her housing and continue working towards the American dream of home ownership.
Attorney Oyen earned her Juris Doctor from Omaha's Creighton University School of Law in 2021, after graduating summa cum laude with a B.A. in History from St. Joseph's University in Brooklyn, New York.
Attorney Oyen was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to an American mother and a German father. The family moved to the Berlin-Brandenburg area when she was two years old; because of this, her native language is German and she considers Germany her home country, despite being born in the U.S.
In her spare time, Mali enjoys reading classic literature, crocheting, re-watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and listening to Kendrick Lamar and The Kinks on vinyl.
